Via Ugo Ara
Via Ugo Ara is the central alley running on a rocky ridge the entire length of the island, intersected on both sides by narrower alleys descending towards the lake, according to a plant of medieval style. Its location above the sea level grants viability on the island even when the waters of the lake rise and invade the walkways on the two lake fronts and the ending “tail”. It is worth noting the southern intersection of this route, Via San Vittore, characterized by the presence of a centenary wisteria.
The street is deservedly dedicated to the musician who chose the island as his home during the last years of his life and wanted to benefit it, leaving to it all his inheritance: indeed, his heritage was destined to the care of children and other islanders, and his house, donated to the Municipality of Stresa, became by his will a school for the children of the island. Today, it hosts the Documentation Centre of the Ecomuseum of Fishing.
